There’s a lot of seat-shifting going on right now in the Third Circuit. Between the Trenton Mayor’s removal, BridgeGate, and the tentative selection of a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, New Jersey is having a hard time staying out of the legal headlines.
Removal of Trenton Mayor Tony Mack
On Wednesday, New Jersey State Superior Court Judge Mary Jacobson removed Trenton Mayor Tony Mack from office, following a jury conviction for fraud, bribery and extortion, all related to government corruption, reports The Associated Press.
BridgeGate Cases Merged
In somewhat related news – only insofar as the same judge is concerned – Judge Mary Jacobson (see above) has merged two cases related to former Governor Chris Christie aides alleged to be involved in the BridgeGate scandal, reports the AP. Judge Jacobson will hear the cases of Bridget Kelly, former deputy chief of staff, and Bill Stepien, former campaign manager, together on March 11, 2014.
Tentative Selection of Bankruptcy Judge
After reviewing the recommendations of a merit selection committee tasked with suggesting candidates for upcoming vacancies on the bench of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey, the Judicial Council has announced the tentative selection of Andrew B. Altenburg, Jr. for a bankruptcy judgeship, announced the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
If you would like to comment about Andrew B. Altenburg Jr.’s qualifications, you must do so by Thursday, March 13, 2014, and send your comments to:
